Most people think persuasion is about being super charismatic. Nope. Very practical, very pragmatic, very skill-based.

If you can get an idea off the ground and see it through to implementation, then you can do anything. You will be a leader by definition.

This should feel like a workshop, not a lecture. I want to take ideas and turn them into real life practical stuff.

It's very, very unsexy what we're doing. It's checklist stuff, but it's building blocks.

On Stakeholders and Politics

Let's be clear. Everybody has agendas. Everybody. That's OK. We're all trying to get stuff done.

Three people equals politics.

Power is getting people to do things they otherwise wouldn't.

On Communication

Don't begin something with the word 'why.' Because it puts people on their heels.

Try to use the word 'and' rather than 'but' as much as you can. People only remember what comes after 'but'.

The longer you talk, the harder you try.

Nobody cares what you think. They care what clients think.

On Resistance and Support

Find the resistor. Fine, we don't see eye to eye. Try to figure out: are they actively working against you? That's the main takeaway.

Don't just stick to 'this will be better.' Acknowledge it could be bad. Sometimes stuff happens. It also might be good.

Beware these people: they'll say they'll help, they won't do anything.

The difference between a real yes and a fake yes? It's money. If it's a yes and here's money, that's yes.

On Small Victories

Don't do them all at once. Space them out. Make them last longer.

Don't be a weirdo. Make sure it has substance, otherwise you'll lose credibility.

On Career and Self-Care

Sales solves everything.

If you're applying for a job you're fully qualified for, you should not be applying for that job.

Grinding doesn't work for me. Sometimes I'll just walk out. Nope. No more today.

This is a new language. You're going to get it. Once you get it, you can get fluent. It's going to be second nature.
